Emma & Oliver celebrated their wedding in May 2019. Here's their story:

Why did you choose Cantley House Hotel as your wedding venue?

We loved everything about it, particularly the rustic barn for our reception and the beautiful grounds. We were considering a winter wedding at first but when Lara, our wedding coordinator, described drinks and canapés on the lawns in the summer, we couldn’t resist booking for May. Another thing we really appreciated was the option for guests to stay overnight at the hotel which meant we could see them the following morning over breakfast too.

How many venues did you view before you booked Cantley House Hotel?

Cantley House Hotel was the first venue we viewed and we fell in love with it straight away! We visited another two venues on the same day, but Cantley really did tick all the boxes for us.

How far in advance did you book your wedding venue?

We booked Cantley House Hotel 15 months before our wedding. It seemed like a while in advance but it meant we had time to get everything sorted without getting stressed about things – we really enjoyed planning it all.

Did you have a church wedding or civil ceremony and why?

We held our ceremony at the Royal Memorial Chapel at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst because Emma is a member of the Chapel Choir there. It is a really beautiful chapel and the service was wonderful, especially the music - we were lucky enough to have a 34-strong choir!

What advice would you give other couples getting married at Cantley House?

If you’re looking for a venue with beautiful grounds, attentive staff and great food then you’ve picked the right one! Nothing is too much trouble for the wedding coordinators so don’t be afraid to ask, plus there is no need to worry about anything on the day as they will have it all under control. Try to go to a few of the wedding open evenings and fairs, even after you’ve booked, as seeing the venue on multiple occasions really helped us to visualise how everything would work. If you can’t decide on the evening food, my family won’t stop talking about how good the hog roast was, even a year on!

Did you have a DJ or band and why?

Oli is a serial attender of gigs so it was always going to be a live band for us and we’re so glad we made that decision. Our band, The Sparks, were absolutely incredible – their live sets meant everyone was up dancing and they performed DJ sets in the breaks so there was music all night long

What was the favourite part of your day and why?

Too many to list! But we’d have to say that having everyone we loved in one place to celebrate with us was pretty special - the time enjoying canapés and drinks on the lawns with our guests in amazing weather, with garden games and relaxing background music played by our acoustic guitarist, was one of the many perfect moments of the day.

Was there a theme to your wedding and what were your decorations?

Our colour theme was blue and white (in part due to Emma’s love of Ipswich Town FC!) – Sonning Flowers decorated the barn for us with beautiful blue and white floral table and pedestal displays along with garlands on the fireplace and beams which looked wonderful.

Would you change any part of your day?

We honestly wouldn’t change a thing. If anything didn’t go to plan, we certainly didn’t notice or mind as we were caught up enjoying everything else – it’s just a shame we can’t do it all again!
